Michael G Clark PAI RSW

Michael G Clark graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1983.

He visited Paris for the first time in 1980, walking for miles, drinking in the atmosphere and revelling in the style of the city and its people. He loved the cafés and the streets – the different iconography the city had to offer – and he has returned every year.

“I worked Saturdays and holidays in Jenners department store where I was fascinated by the fashion, fabric and traditions of this Edinburgh icon. Most of my money was spent on clothes, or in The Edinburgh Wine Bar on Hanover Street; good wine served in a bar was rare then, even in Edinburgh. And, of course, one had to look one’s best when bibbing a decent Bordeaux, even in those days.”

Fashion, a shop window, a street scene, a special dress for a special occasion, whether a serene wedding dress or a killer LBD – these are recurrent themes in Michael’s work.

Working from a studio at the top of his house in Ayrshire, Michael Clark has built up a growing following for his work through extensive solo and group exhibitions throughout the UK.
