emotional rescue
10th May - 10th June 2023

Ian Neill presents his first solo exhibition of work - a unique and powerful collection of figurative paintings painted exclusively in oil. Using memory and spontaneity, he is inviting the viewer to share the experience of both strength and vulnerability of the figure in elements of the landscape. Also present, is the emotional connection between human beings, sharing thoughts, feelings and offering support.

Ian Neill

Ian attended Glasgow School of Art as a mature student from 1996 graduating in 2000 with a BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting with a Distinction in Historical and Critical Studies.

Since then he has exhibited in open exhibitions including the RSA, RGI and Paisley Art Institute as well as several private galleries. He has work in collections in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and the USA.

Ian says “Over the last few years I’ve been developing a series of figure paintings dealing with issues relating to male psychology in the modern world, such as feelings of isolation and anxiety.”

“The solitude and loneliness suggested in some of his figurative works is alleviated and transformed with a sense of hope and positivity through the use of a subtle but confident colour palette and thoughtful composition. These are striking and singularly beautiful paintings.” Jane Frame, Gallery Director.

Ian works exclusively in oil paint as he enjoys its physicality and strength of colour. For him there is also a tactile, sensual quality to it that is unmatched by any other media.
