John Slavin

John Slavin

Born in 1956 in Falkirk, John Slavin attended Edinburgh College of Art 1975-1980 and studied under the tutelage of Peploe, Blackadder and Philipson.

The ethos of the Colourists and the Edinburgh School led John to make a series of pilgrimages to France. Although he spent sixteen years on the Isle of Skye painting landscape, he now spends the majority of his time working in the Pyrenean mountains. In 2016 he exhibited a series of French landscapes in the Bugarach gallery in the heart of Cathar country.

“I observe the motion of flowing water in a world where sunshine, wind, snow peaks and poetry abound.”

Edinburgh has always been a welcoming place for John’s work, with his landscapes showing and selling in RSA and VAS. Doubtfire first showed John’s work in a successful introduction to the Edinburgh gallery scene in 2011.
