Karen Akester

Karen Akester is an artist based in Edinburgh. She studied Glass making at Edinburgh University-College of Art completing a Masters Degree in Glass in 2002.

Exhibiting both locally and internationally, her work is held in several public collections; The National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh; Northlands Creative, Lybster Caithness; Wheaton Arts, Millville New Jersey and the Bullseye Gallery, Portland Oregon USA.

She was one of 21 artists invited by the late Dan Klein to create new work for Auction in the first Modern & Contemporary Glass Auction at Bonham’s, New Bond Street London. The subsequent pieces bought by Dan Klein are now part of the glass collection bequeathed to the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Selected exhibitions include Coburger - Glasspreis Germany, Collect Saatchi Gallery, Sofa Chicago, Affordable Art Fair Melbourne Australia, International Glass Festival Bienalle, Stourbridge. She has been invited to teach workshops at NorthLands Creative, Caithness; Bild-Werk Frauenau in Bavaria Germany, Bezalel Academy Jerusalem, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and Edinburgh University-College of Art.

Her explorations in the pate-de verre (glass paste process) have been included in several publications, including the eminent Keith Cumming’s Contemporary Kilnformed Glass publication.
