Vicky Higginson

Vicky Higginson

Vicky Higginson started working with glass during her degree in 3D Design at Manchester Metropolitan University and went on to complete a Masters in Glass at the University of Sunderland in 2011. Since then she has been living and working in Edinburgh, exhibiting work nationally and internationally and has won awards including the British Glass Biennale Student Award and the Creative Scotland Emerging Artist Bursary. Over the last few years Vicky has been awarded residencies at North Lands Creative in Caithness, Cesty Skla in the Czech Republic and at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), where she has also taught glassblowing on the Masters course in Glass.

Vicky’s work incorporates hand-blown glass with coldworking techniques, to produce vessels and sculptural forms. She experiments with different approaches to the treatment of the surface of glass, cutting through layers of colour, carving tactile surfaces and producing effects with engraving and layering of glass. Her sculptural work has become more personal, with pieces reflecting damaging thoughts and emotions.
