Sam Banister
Sam Banister trained at Leith School of Art under the tutelage of renowned artist Paul Martin.
She loves to experiment with mixed media, oil and beeswax and, although inspired by the landscape as a whole, it is the detail which captures her imagination. Be it the rough bark of a tree, a group of found objects or the intricate nature and layers of a sea shell, her painted work has a tactile and graphic quality.
In exploring the natural patterns in nature and landscape, some of her pieces assume the identity of wall sculptures – dynamic, rippling, full of life and interacting with light and shade.
Sam returned to her first love of art when she moved with her family to the Scottish Borders and now works from her home and studio by the shores of Loch Maree in Ross-shire.
We have shown Sam Banister in a number of small groups at Doubtfire Gallery and we are delighted to be providing her the stage of a first solo exhibition. We firmly believe in the integrity, depth and skill of her art. Leaning on natural elements, the work has an energetic and contemporary feel, skillfully merging abstract treatments with a perceptible understanding of the real world.
Sam has work in private collections in Norway, New York, Australia, Edinburgh and London.
